	A.C. Russell, ex-dean of U of L law school, dies at the age of 90 A. C. "Ab" Russell, former dean of the University of Louisville School of Law, died Wednesday at his home after a long illness. He was 90. Russell, dean of the law school from 1946 to 1957, joined the U of L staff in 1938 and retired as distinguished professor of law in 1972. The native of Jackson, Ky., graduated from Berea College in 1928 and from Yale Law School in 1930. After serving with the FBI for five years, he practiced law in Frankfort until joining the U of L faculty. He served as acting dean for three years during World War II. A bronze bust of Russell, by sculptor Barney Bright, was placed in the rotunda of the school in 1972 in recognition of his many years of service. In 1948, Russell revised the Kentucky Civil and Criminal Codes, which governs court procedure of civil and criminal cases. His book, "Russell's Kentucky Practice and Service," which covered the same area of all the rules, provisions and statues that relate to the practice of civil and criminal cases in Kentucky, was published in 1953. He put out a supplement once or twice a year and made a complete revision about every 10 years. In 1955, he and James R. Merritt, who later became dean of the law school, wrote "Wills and Administration of Estates in Kentucky." At one time he also drafted the rules of criminal procedure for Kentucky for the Legislative Research Commission. Russell 1972 PHOTO Russell was a member of the Kentucky and Louisville Bar associations, and the Filson Club. He was a member of the American Arbitration Association and the National Academy of Arbitrators and served on the Federal Mediation and Conciliation Services panel of arbitrators. His survivors include his wife, the former Anna Stamper; two daughters, Mary Russell of Laurel, Md.,. and Anne R. Nicholas; a son, Andrew J. Russell of Crestwood; four grandchildren; and a great-grandchild. There will be a private graveside service in Berea. Visitation is at Pearson's, 149 Breckenridge Lane, from 6 to 9 p.m. today. The family suggests that memorial gifts be made to Berea College Office of Alumni Affairs, Campus P. O. Box 2343, Berea, Ky. 40404.
