FINED FOR SELLING A SCHOOL. A Novel Species of Fraud Being; Developed la Breathitt County. Lexington, Ky, March 4- (Special) Alex. Deaton, a Breathitt county School Trustee, was tried In the Circuit Court at Jackson to-day and fined $2S0 for selling a school to a teacher. He was elected Trustee of his school district and sold the school for $56. He was placed In Jail, where he will remain 250 days, the penalty for failure to pay the fine. Bribery In office is a crime that teachers and Trustee in a majority of the districts in Breathitt county have committed for years. The grand Jury In session now will make a rigid Investigation of these offenses and the probabilities are that other offenders will be brought to Justice. It is said some teachers in the county have drawn pay for as many as three five months' schools within the last twelve months, and In some Instances teacher have drawn pay where they have never been Inside the school house.

THE SCARE UNABATED. Small-pox Case Has Broken Up Circuit Court and Teachers Institute At Jackson. Jackson'. Aug. 11 Special-- The small-pox scare in this town continues unabated. Circuit Court and the Teachers Institute, both of which were In session this week have adjourned, and the town seems almost deserted. Every physician in town has been kept busy since Monday vaccinating the people. After trying in vain for two days to find a house to be used as a pest-house the Board of Health was compelled to build one on a remote mountain point to which Granville Mcintosh, the patient, was removed after dark. Ex-Sheriff Alex Deaton, Capt Ned Maraman and Jailer A. C. Russell, all of whom have had the disease, are the only ones outside of physicians who are allowed to come near the patient. Ever since the case was pronounced smallpox these men have had charge. and like true heroes they have given up all other duties to wait upon the afflicted. Mcintosh Is reported better.
