Missouri was born in Breathitt County, KY in or around the town of Quicksand, the daughter of William Hall Russell and Paulina Jones. I am conjecturing but sometime around February of 1887 she had an affair with a married man by the name of Joseph Hurt (F-A-G memorial 127380459) whilst his wife was in the 8th or 9th month of pregnancy with his third child. (Joe himself is the possible result of an affair that his mother had with a neighbor) (Hiram Combs)). Meanwhile, Four months after conception she met and married Green Berry Stacy. She conceived two of his daughters Nannie and Lucy Stacy before she suffered a tragic accident while gardening. A tree limb fell on her and killed her. Green Berry had nothing to do with his own children much less his step son. The girls went to live with his mother and Missouri's son Curtis Hurt(Combs) became a ward of the state of Kentucky. Other's believe that this Joe Hurt that fathered her child was the Joe Hurt that Bad Tom Smith mentions in his pre-hanging confession as the first person he murdered. Which in theory is still a possible event. But if so, whichever Joe it was, was a biological Combs. Male line YDNA doesn't lie.
